Grand Opening celebrates increased capacity to support North American customers

With much excitement and great fan fair Jupiter Group celebrated the Grand Opening of the expansion in the US facilities located in Pensacola late May.

Jupiter Group CEO Jens Kristensen along with Plant Manager Sean Guidry were joined by leaders from the community to celebrate this momentous Grand Opening event and to make it official that Jupiter Group is growing.

This expansion is the third of its kind in 2 years for Jupiter Group, and comes at just the right time as the need for capacity in the US market is growing and in demand. The new building is designed as an assembly hall with lean methodologies in mind, along with variability for different product lines. The assembly hall has freed up much needed space in the manufacturing building where Jupiter Group PNS is casting wind turbine nacelle cover and spinner components. The expansion has doubled the facilities capacities and is prepared for new orders.

Jupiter Group’s intention in the US market is to grow market share in the wind energy sector. As Jupiter Group is “Devoted to Wind” it allows a focus and flexibility which has made Jupiter Group the preferred supplier that it is today.

Read more about our Devotion to Wind here.

And while Jupiter Group does enjoy a strong customer portfolio there is still room for growth, and Pensacola is prepared to deliver.

The new assembly hall is built with change in the markets and product lines built in. The idea that an assembly line has to go one way or another is thrown away. The crane arrangements wave goodbye to bottle neck risks, and the workstations are built to be mobile. Pneumatic and electrical infrastructure was installed for growth and flexibility allowing for seamless change and increases. The assembly hall also houses the new hire training center along with offices for the quality team.

Though the expansion is only increasing the original space by 50% it is doubling the capacity. With the ability to re-write the floor plan and product flow the Jupiter Group Pensacola facility is consuming space with utmost efficiency. With this new capacity Jupiter Group is reinforcing the commitment to wind and making sure that our customers have a home for their demand.

We are excited to welcome Verdane Capital as the new owners of Jupiter Group A/S

PRESS RELEASE: PRIVATE EQUITY FUND TAKES OVER SUCCESSFUL DANISH WIND POWER PRODUCT COMPANIES

The Nordic Private Equity fund Verdane Capital VIII (“Verdane”) buys three companies in the global wind power industry, all of which are located in Denmark: JSB Group, Jupiter Group, and Polytech. During the past three years, all three companies have experienced significant global growth, and together employ almost 1600 people across three continents. Verdane is planning for more acquisitions in Denmark.

  • Seller: The right buyer for creating further growth
  • Verdane sees great potential in Danish small- and middle-sized growth companies

Verdane has just completed their biggest acquisition in Denmark with the takeover of three successful companies JSB Group, Jupiter Group, and Polytech. These three companies, which have been owned by among others Danish Pentaco Partners up until now, all produce components for the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers – including Vestas, Siemens, and General Electric. The companies’ Danish headquarters are located in Ringkøbing, Køge, and Bramming with production facilities in Poland, China, and in the US.

“Our objective with the acquisition of JSB Group, Jupiter Group, and Polytech is primarily to drive expansion and take the companies to the next stage on a global scale. All three companies have shown significant growth and we see further potential based on the strategic initiatives that we have identified in close cooperation with the existing management teams,” says Emanuel Johnsson from the Verdane Capital Advisors investment team.

Seller: The right buyer for creating further growth

The selling party is pleased to see Verdane taking over the companies:

”All three companies have developed in the way that we intended, and they all show satisfactory financial results. Now however, the time is right for the three companies to shift gear. Verdane has experience within this sector and will be able to contribute with strong competence to drive further global expansion in all three companies. Importantly, Verdane will continue to develop the companies abroad as well as in Denmark, where the management, product development, and advanced production takes place. Therefore, we look forward to follow the companies into the future,” says Thomas Bechmann, partner in Pentaco Partners.

Verdane sees great potential in Danish small- and middle-sized growth companies

Verdane Capital Advisors (the exclusive advisory firm to Verdane Capital funds), with offices in Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsingfors are primarily seeking investment opportunities in the Nordics.

“We follow Danish small and medium-sized growth companies within energy, advanced industry, technology, and e-commerce with great interest. This is where Verdane has special industry knowledge and where Denmark has a leading position. Wind energy well packed – an abstract from a recently published Polish news article

Less than 2 years ago, Denmark-based Jupiter Group – a wind turbine nacelle cover manufacturer – launched its Polish division in Trzeszczyn near Police (Zachodniopomorskie Province).

Today, the Polish Division provides services for some of the largest OEMs in the Wind Turbine Industry. What this means is that the nacelle covers manufactured in Poland are used across the globe.

Headquartered in Denmark, Jupiter Group operates on a global scale: in addition to the Danish Headquarter, it also owns divisions in the USA (Pensacola, Florida), China (Dezhou, Shandong) and, since 2013, in Trzeszczyn. Start of the Polish branch was so successful that from year to year the company increased market share and thereby gradually increased employment.

As Jupiter Group supplies some of the most significant OEMs it goes without saying that the amount of demand put on the Trzeszczyn plant is just enormous. After 2 years of implementations and adaptation to local conditions, it is safe to conclude that the Poles have stood up to the challenge. The task was pretty ambitious as the standard product of the Jupiter Group – wind turbine nacelles covers – requires the manufacturer to master the world’s top quality and manufacturing technologies.

Jupiter Group is a typical OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) sector corporation which, in this particular case, translates into the world’s top-quality production of wind turbine nacelles and spinner covers branded by global producers. This puts on both management and the entire team an obligation to comply with the most demanding standards confirmed by the ISO 9001 certificate.

Separate production lines were launched for each customer with training sessions organized to develop highly skilled employees to enable them to handle specific jobs and work phases. Technological regimes are stringent: only the persons, after health and safety training and use of personal protective equipment, can access the production floor. This applies to both employees and visitors.

The process is a complex chemical process, hence the special safety precautions must be observed. A special, fiber-like material is recieved in the chemical lab. It is further shaped into specifically designed moulds. Each cover element is made by a separate team. Their job is to cut the material down to a specific size and then to polish individual cover elements. The large-area production floors are fitted with mobile screens to attenuate the noise and separate the next production phases.

Pretty impressive are also the large moulds designed to shape the nacelle and spinner covers. Meticulous work in this area is required that consists of precise cutting down of the elements to a perfect model. The final product is a completely assembled nacelle waiting for a carriage on a special platform. Several Nacelle covers leave the Trzeszczyn plant every day which are all transported on vehicle platforms.

Stable operation and the future

The employment conditions offered at Jupiter Group Poland are really something to pay attention to. The Trzeszczyn plant offer is particularly attractive in the Polish job market. All employees – currently 160 – are employed under employment contracts. The company guarantees timely and steady payouts, but what it expects from the employees in return is safety first, loyalty and commitment. There are incentives for improving one’s own qualifications and the company provides on-site training and opportunities to improve your current skills.

Jupiter Group is recruiting on an ongoing basis.

The corporate motto is: global presence, innovation, certified quality and environmentally friendly production. This is why the company management is constantly staying in touch and exchanging information. Although the innovation centers are located in Denmark and in the USA, holding a virtual conference between Denmark, China, the USA and Poland is commonplace and not a serious problem in the era of global communication.

Large contracts provide Jupiter Group with financial stability and resources for development; however, the Board refuses to rest on its laurels. Currently, the entire Trzeszczyn project (both process lines, including the office facilities) takes up a total area of 26 300 m2.

Early 2016, the production has increased by three additional modules. The target is three production floors on a total surface area 68 500 m2.

Our devotion to wind has kept us in the forefront of our field and enables us to provide the most refined and innovative solutions for our customers across the globe.

Jupiter Group fostering innovation through education

Fostering a culture of innovation is a core value at Jupiter Group. We welcome opportunities to partner with universities and schools to engage with the young leaders of tomorrow.

Jupiter Group was proud to host a group of Honor Chemistry Students from Tate High

The students came to tour the Jupiter Pensacola Manufacturing Facility to see chemistry as it applies to real life. The students were not disappointed as local Quality Manager, Micah Reeder, introduced them to the processes and methodologies Jupiter employs to manufacture wind turbine components.

The Jupiter Group PNS Manufacturing facility uses variations of resins, epoxies, and other materials to manufacture nacelles and spinners for the North American wind market. Students were especially interested in the use and reactions of catalysts as it was in their current curriculum.

It was great to see the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and stakeholders take an interest in science and manufacturing. We look forward to continued cooperation with the Tate High Honors Chemistry program to perform an annual field trip tour for the students enrolling in that program.

Jupiter Bach incorporates innovative 3D printing

3D printing brings quickly ideas to the field for testing making the ideas of today the reality of tomorrow. By reducing the time to market for new innovations Jupiter Bach is helping drive down the cost of energy for all.

Jupiter Bach has been known for many innovations in composites manufacturing

The incorporation of 3D printing was the next natural step when some new ideas about how to solve a challenge needed quick results. Design ideas were first brought to the table through sketches and 3D modeling. Manufacturability and functionality reviews were worked through.

When the design was set, full scale 3D printed components were built for testing. The full size prototype components gave Jupiter the ability to run test and find ways to improve the product performance.

This utilization of the technology was a key component to successfully bringing a necessary solution to the market fast.

Record year at Jupiter Group

In 2015 the Danish GRP manufacturer Jupiter Group had a revenue growth exceeding 70%. Now they prepare for further growth.

Along with the 70% revenue growth, the GRP manufacturer, who develops nacelle and spinner covers for the wind turbine industry, managed to triple their annual results.

In addition, the company could welcome more than 200 new employees globally, and the bulging order books show that the growth will continue in 2016. CEO Jens Kristensen is pleased that the growth is coming from both new and existing customers, as well as new markets.

We are, of course, proud that we have success and are expanding our production capacity in Poland, China and USA, and at the same time managed to maintain our Danish production unit.

The production unit on Falster in Denmark employs 40-45 employees. The unit got a new role in 2015 as it was strategically decided to move the production tasks to Poland. Instead the Danish production unit turned its focus towards innovation and special projects – and this conversion has paid off well both in Poland and Denmark.

Three reasons for the success

Jens Kristensen gives three reasons for the company’s record year.

First of all we have an amazing and dedicated staff. Even though the number of employees has exceeded 700 spread over three continents, we are very good at collaboration across. Furthermore, we have a precise formulated and complied focus strategy, where we are 100% dedicated to the wind turbine industry. Finally, we have a conscious commitment to innovation, he explains.

The strong focus on innovation can be seen by the fact that all four production units have their own engineering teams assigned. Moreover, the innovation in Denmark is to be strengthened, and is the primary focus in Falster. At the same time the company is staffing up their engineering team in its headquarter. Due to this success the headquarter will move from Bogø to Køge close to Copenhagen during the spring of 2016.

We move to be able to expand and better attract employees with the right skills, and at the same time maintain our current employees. Køge was selected in dialogue with employees in the headquarter. In average they now have shorter distance to work.

During first quarter of 2016 the CEO expects to hire another 3-4 engineers. They will help secure future growth in Poland, USA and China, as well as on Falster.
